In the event that you use saunas regularly then you may have heard of the infrared sauna. This new technology uses infrared heaters as its heat source as compared to wood stoves or electric heaters which are used by traditional saunas. Infrared heaters heat the occupants whereas the traditional saunas heat the air.

Instead of heating the air itself, infrared saunas heat the objects and people in their proximity. However, the ambient air stays about the same temperature. This means that infrared saunas consume much less energy and are more efficient than conventional saunas are.

When you realize that the infrared sauna heats its occupants rather than the air you can then understand that it is possible to use this type of sauna anywhere, even outside, yet it will still be as effective.

It is common for infrared saunas to use enclosures even though they are not required in order to be effective. Many folks like the feel of the traditional type sauna and we are all familiar with going into a sauna rather than sitting outside with a heater. This of course would seem alien to most of us.

The infrared heaters use a light frequency which one cannot see. This technology is also called infrared radiation and is abbreviated as IR. This radiation is not the same as atomic radiation or ultraviolet radiation which is responsible for causing sunburn when out in the hot sun.

You may be surprised to know that you are pretty familiar with infrared radiation, infrared radiation heats our planet and the radiation in this case comes from the sun. In actual fact your body also exudes infrared radiation. Infrared sauna enthusiasts suggest that the infrared sauna provides even more benefits to that of a traditional sauna.

Infrared saunas do just as well as conventional saunas at causing sweating necessary to excrete toxins. They also help ease arthritis pain just as effectively. Besides that, infrared radiation supposedly has unique healing properties not present within traditional saunas.

Proponents of the infrared sauna state that infrared radiation can penetrate further into the body, right to the muscles tissues and internal organs. This enhances your bodies ability to release impurities and therefore bolsters your immune system. This way you lose weight by burning calories and along with this you also have the added benefit of improving your skin tone.
